As I started to research into ages children start school I came across an article from May 2012 talking about how they should raise the age to 6 in the UK. This is interesting to me as most people I have questioned about this really think it's a positive thing for them to start at an early age. People were all for children going to nursery. But if you have a read of this it gives a complete different outlook on childrens education.
This really is extreme..............

hi claire,
ReplyDeleteso what were your views on this article, did u completly argree with it?
to be honest i found the article interesting but with not much substantial exvidence to back it up. what i found more ridulous about it stated that the brighter children of our society should be the ones going into education later but the less advanced should have it earlier. would this actually work? it would break up peer groups, create a social divide etc.
when actually looking at the curiculum for children between the ages of 3-5, there is not a great academic side to it. its more about the children gaining some indipendance and playing freely.
the ideas on this article would not work in our society these days, it is much too diverse. maybe in an middle class area where all the children are "expected" to be academically advance because thier parents are "doctors" etc
i would very much like to hear your views on this as this subject is something i have been looking closely at myself
